Dambazau’s son sacked as House of Rep member by Kano Tribunal

Shamsuddeen Dambazau, the son of former Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau has been sacked as the member representing Sumaila/Takai Federal Constituency by an election petition tribunal which sat in Kano on Friday August 30.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was ordered to issue certificate of return for the constituency to Surajo Kanawa, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Shamsuddeen came second in the APC primaries but became the party’s flagbearer in the House of Representatives election after a Federal High Court in Kano disqualified Kawu Sumaila, following the provision of evidence that the former presidential aide contested for Kano South senatorial ticket on the platform of the APC.

Court declares Onipokia kingship seat vacant in Ogun State

A High Court of Justice in Ipokia Judicial Division, Ogun State has declared the seat of Onipokia of Ipokia vacant and has banned the kingmakers from appointing any chief of the town as new king.

The court, presided over by Justice Gboyega Ogunfowora made the declaration while dismissing a preliminary objection by the kingmakers of Ipokia traditional council of chiefs, in a trial on the chieftaincy tussle to elect a new Onipokia of Ipokia, in Ogun West area of the State.

Justice Ogunfowora struck out the objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to adjudicate on the matter, describing the preliminary objection as frivolous and unmeritorious. The Claimants in the trial, the Asade-Adekanbi Royal Family, which include Prince Adesola, Prince Adepegba and Princess Akinleye Alaba had taken the kingmakers of Ipokia traditional council to court for the wrongful selection of one Yisa Olaniyan through minority voting as against a 1956 declaration and the directive of the state government in a process to pick the new Onipokia.

The family also claimed that the said Yisa Olaniyan was in no way related to the Iwaye-Dodo ruling House nor a member of the Asade-Adekambi Royal Family and by extension, whose turn is next to produce the Onipokia.  In a bid, to stall the trial the kingmakers, led by the 7th Defendant, the Esemo of Ipokia, Chief Fatai Agbeyemi, he had raised a preliminary objection on the grounds that the Asade Family in filing the suit, failed to comply with the mandatory requirements of the Chiefs Law of Ogun State, describing the action as hasty, premature and incompetent.

The claimants filed a counter affidavit stating that upon the wrong selection process of Olaniyan as the Onipokia of Ipokia, the Chairman of Ipokia Local Government was prompted to complain through a written document, while there was a letter of the state government nullifying the selection process. Both letters were tendered as exhibits in the trial.

Justice Ogunfowora pointed out that “the pleadings in the case proved that no formal appointment of a recognised Chief had been made by the Kingmakers and communicated to the appropriate authorities.”

He said, it would not be in the interests of justice for the claimants to fold their arms and look on, while their perceived rights were being allegedly infringed. Justice Ogunfowora, in his final analysis said “the preliminary objection of the 7th Defendant is dismissed as being frivolous and unmeritorious in the light of the above.”

Lady shares CCTV footage of policemen robbing her in the night (video)

Kenya’s 2019 census which kicked off on August 24, had a sad twist for a family in the country as they got robbed by policemen in the night.

Wanjiru Kariuki, a businesswoman and resident of Nairobi’s Joska Estate accused the policemen of breaking into her home and stealing her appliances. According to her, she thought the security operatives were census officials but changed her mind after they started knocking on her door violently.

I refused to open the door after they started knocking the door violently, including using doors. They eventually managed to break down the metallic door,” she narrated.

One of the lady’s barmaids also recounted getting slapped by the policemen.

The first thing they did was to slap me, asking me why I had refused to open the door for them,” Wanjiru’s barmaid Mercy Silantoi recalled.

One of the policemen was captured in a CCTV footage stealing a phone that was charging at the bar counter during the raid which Wanjiru said was meant to serve as her punishment for refusing to pay “protection fees” that is demanded by local security officers for purposes of extortion.

Ubi Franklin’s baby mama makes a clarification on what she meant by playing the role of a father and mother

Ubi Franklin’s first baby mama, Jennifer has made a clarification on what she meant when she said she plays the role of a father and mother for their daughter, Zaneta.

Recall that the US-based lady’s birthday message to her daughter which read in part  “Today am thankful and grateful to God for giving me the wisdom, Grace and strength to play both role of a father and mother in your life my Amazing blessing” was misinterpreted by those who felt it meant Ubi Franklin was a deadbeat Dad.

Jennifer backed Ubi Franklin’s comment of her birthday message meaning that he is not physically present in the US to take care of their daughter and not being a deadbeat father. According to her, people will always say what they don’t understand.

Ubi Franklin also revealed why he had to address the misinterpretation of the birthday message in an Instagram exchange with Tonto Dikeh. The music executive said he had to talk about it because people ask him questions when he shows up for different meetings.
